The man in esctasy & the man drowning - both throw up their arms. I am Charmed, on Platform 9¾, indulging life' grey anatomy & wishing on the colour purple.
Fun fact : Ce défi a permis de collecter plus de 100 millions de dollars en 30 jours et financé la découverte de deux gènes liés à la SLA. Parfois internet fait vraiment bien les choses.
My daughter called me from school yesterday.
Her: Dad I got in trouble.
Me: What happened.
Her: A boy grabbed my arm when I tried to walk away from him. So I broke his nose.
Me: (pause)
Me: Are you okay?
Her: I'm fine. But the principal wants to talk to you.
I went in.
The principal sat across from me and explained that while he understood my daughter felt uncomfortable, her response was inappropriate. The boy hadn't actually hurt her. She should have heard him out.
Me: (looked at him)
Me: What did my daughter say when you told her that?
Principal: (shifted in his seat)
Apparently she had told him in the middle of the school corridor, loud enough for everyone passing to hear that if that was his attitude he should probably find a different profession. That he was teaching girls to be quiet and teaching boys that grabbing was acceptable. That men like him were exactly why her mother taught her to throw a proper punch.
Two female teachers had started clapping.
Me: (sat there for a moment)
Me: (looked at the principal)
Me: With respect.
Me: The boy grabbed her when she tried to walk away.
Me: (stood up)
Me: I think we're done here.
Me: (collected my daughter from outside)
Me: (we walked to the car)
Me: (I didn't say anything for a moment)
Her: Am I in trouble?
Me: (looked at her)
Me: Your mum taught you well.
Her: (small smile)
Me: (we drove home)
Me: (I've never been more proud of anything in my life)
My philosophical failure - believing the other decisions would not have created other problems.
It’s utopian. But utopia cannot be the benchmark. Utopia is nothing than a moral compass.
It seems human development is also predicated on undoing decisions (norms) of the people before us. Equality and equity is about interrogating socialization.
A simulation of humans solving the problems created by other humans. With some love, joy and faith in between.

And it’s not that we get it wrong. But getting it wrong in 1126 means a 2026 where “wrong” is law, customs and economic behavior. Society ratifies human error into socialization. And I find that… a little disheartening.
One of the most disappointing thing is to realize how much of reality is man made. We live in the social, economic, political and moral consequence of decision people before us and with us made. And I don’t trust that humans always made the right call.

The idea that the JCF can only exists in a single story is a miscalculation. JCF can play a pivotal role in crime reduction but also have a high citizen facility problem. JCF is not deficient but it has a deficiency. But unaddressed deficiencies can become defining.
@nickoydw@khanodesu If a Head of Dept decide they don't buy into the Minister's vision... they can create bottlenecks. And bottlenecks don't need to be overtly malicious. A 2 week process takes 2 months. And all the Minister is told there are some delays with X and Y but we working on it.
@nickoydw@khanodesu Hmmm. Ministries are big machines filled with people who create intellectual, procedural, personality and capacity barriers. Ministers still need PS and Directors to act, and they have no human resource management power. They have no operational power.
@jaevionn Yes 18 years of my life was in Mineral Heights. And I go to Clarendon 2-3 times per month to see my mom - who still lives in my childhood home.
@Lind_Sayss Yes fair. I agree. But politics is about being seen. Governance is about substance. How do leaders discern when a moment should be more of governance thought leadership versus political grandstanding? Esp when you are trying to secure political mileage in a personality sport.
