"Dem No Dey Fear Last Hope of Common Man Again?"
For Nigeria, one saying wey everybody know be say: "Judiciary na the last hope of the common man."
When big men get power, money and connections, na court ordinary person dey run go.
When regulator and company get fight, na court suppose settle am.
When confusion enter, na court decision suppose bring clarity.
That na wetin Nigerians grow up believe.
Which is why many people dey look this airtime lending matter and dey ask questions.
On April 15, 2026, Federal High Court granted interim orders concerning the DEON Regulations.
On May 22, FCCPC announce say dem don suspend enforcement pending further court proceedings.
Many Nigerians think say the matter go rest there until court hear the substantive case.
Then June 6 come.
Three major newspapers carry reports say Presidency allegedly approve major changes in the market after briefings on competition and capital flight.
The reports even carry one eye-popping claim of β¦3 trillion annual capital flight.
Immediately, people begin scratch head.
Because many industry stakeholders dey estimate the entire airtime lending market at around β¦400 billion annually.
Na there Nigerians begin ask:
"How β¦3 trillion take dey comot from basket wey some people say na β¦400 billion dey inside?"
Na beans?
Na magic?
Or na one of those calculations wey only economists and magicians fit explain?
Before people fit understand wetin dey happen, FCCPC come out issue statement distancing itself from the reports and reiterate say enforcement of the regulations remains suspended because court matter still dey ground.
Now see where the real problem dey.
The issue no be who win argument.
The issue no even be who get right.
The issue na how people see am, perception as big oyinbo dey call am.
When ordinary Nigerians see reports of major approvals today and denials tomorrow while court proceedings are still ongoing, some begin wonder whether anybody still dey wait for court make e finish before moving ahead.
That perception dey dangerous.Β
Because once people begin ask whether court processes matter, belief in institutions starts to suffer.
And trust hard to build, easy to lose.
Meanwhile, na ordinary Nigerians dey pay the price.
The woman wey sells food and borrows airtime to call customers.
The mechanic wey depends on mobile data for orders.
The student wey needs internet for assignments.
The small business owner wey runs everything from one phone.
The dispatch rider wey survives on connectivity.
When airtime and data advance services disappear, na these people feel am first.
Many were relieved when @AirtelNigeria restored services.
More relief came when @GloWorld followed.
But millions are still waiting for full certainty across the industry as @MTNNG never gree to join.
And every new contradiction only creates more confusion.
At a time when government is trying to attract investors, strengthen the economy and build confidence, the strongest signal any institution can send is simple:
Let the rules be clear.
Let the facts add up.
Let the courts do their work.
Because if Nigerians begin to feel say even the "last hope of the common man" no dey command confidence again, na everybody go lose.
And that one na price wey no economy can afford to pay.

When Peter Obi becomes president in 2027, if he fails to carry out deep reforms of the judiciary, the Police, DSS, EFCC and the military within his first 2 years in office, Iβll withdraw my support immediately and become one of his loudest critics.
Because the real battle is not just removing Tinubu/bad leaders, itβs dismantling the corrupt system protecting them.
Fix the institutions or fail. Itβs that simple
