@UnkleAyo Speechless...
You probably lived in the past where you had earlier received trainings in philosophy, Latin, Law, History, Politics, and possibly Medicine.
Back in 2012 when I lived in Bradford, I applied for the Standard Chartered Nigeria management trainee program and my first round interview was in Manchester. I literally drove an hour up the M62 to attend an interview at Deansgate for a job in Lagos (I didn't make it past that stage because I had no NYSC yet).
This wasn't our parents' experience sometime in 1976 - this was 2012. Literally 5 minutes ago. Yet if you tell someone in Nigeria today that barely 12 years ago, along with my entire friend group of Nigerian international graduates in the UK, I voluntarily returned to Nigeria in search of a better life, it will sound absurd.
Meanwhile over the same period, my Chinese housemates from uni have been exploring the world, earning full value for their labour, and living their best lives. Up until around 2017, they used to occasionally still invite me to join them on their latest group trip to Bangkok or Phnom Penh or Jakarta.
But here we are. I was having a chat with a (foreign) friend this morning complaining about Nigeria's economic situation and she told me that it's been a boon for remote employers because they now know that high quality Nigerian talent is available on the cheap.
Apparently her Nigerian contractors get paid $500/month and they're happy for the job. These are grown men with families. My proposed training allowance as a 24-year-old cadet pilot back in 2014 (no CPL/PPL, no hours, no type rating, nothing) was $1,200/month.
It's the most frustrating thing in the world having to navigate Nigeria's information asymmetry because you can be sure that there will be dozens of people in the comments who are hearing of all this for the first time. Nigerians are the only people in the world who are so information-resistant that they can experience the economic boom of a lifetime with obvious signs in their own lives, but you have to convince them that they are experiencing good times and they shouldn't pour petrol over everything and burn it down.
And sometimes despite your entreaties, they still vote for the real life Col. H. Stinkmeaner from Daura to come and destroy their own widespread prosperity, because a white guy from Washington paid some yellow beret or hijabi-wearing numpties to tell them that their prosperity is "fuelled by corruption" and "caused by high oil price."
I don't see any hope.
Hi @elonmusk, here are some cut-and-dried cases of @USAIDNigeria corruption and money laundering you may want to look into.
On January 16, 2025, just 4 days before @realDonaldTrump's inauguration, USAID made a $3.3m payment to a vendor in Nigeria called DAI Global LLC.
I looked into the payment history and saw that between August 2020 and January 2025, at least $48 million of US taxpayers' money supposedly invested in Nigeria went to DAI Globall LLC, registered in Bethesda, Maryland.
Our leaders can do better. The primary health care centers are the bedrock of our healthcare.
This is not a doctor's problem, it's a Nigerians problem. It's our job to demand for better healthcare.
@BelloGaladanchi Good job @BelloGaladanchi
Now you've shut them up completely, those who would've said, you only critic & won't perform if in the same position.
@jidesanwoolu please tell one of your aides to download this video & show it to your 35 other colleagues @ next GOVERNORS peer review.
@UgochukwuCFR Impressive.
I'm particularly awed by your interpretation of the topic and tweak to the "common placed" Agenda Setting Theory.
Please @UgochukwuCFR how can I read the research?
Best wishes on your presentation in Philadelphia. 🥂
@nyerisi @SamuelNwanosike Is this how Rivers State will experience development?
These young men and "leaders of tomorrow" are gyrating to the egos of their principals because of immediate gratification.
Una well done ooh, chai.
🤦🏾♂️
How do a species so intelligent sacrifice communal good on the altar of personal EGO? There's nothing glamorous about war & conflict - the destruction and suffering in the aftermath is embarrassing.
#IranvsIsrael#IsraelPalestineWar#UkraineRussiaWar#Sudan
END all Wars.
It's been one year since the war in Sudan started; no one remembers them let alone making headlines.
The war in Ukraine which Russia planned to be a "swift operation" rages on with millions displaced.
Gaza conflict is 6 months and counting.
Now, Iran vs Isreal?
Does the countless deaths mean nothing to leaders in those places and world leaders generally?
Why have humans devoted so much to propagate wars...moneys that could have made Gaza better, Sudan more developed and improve lives overall everywhere?
@IamThatNaijaGuy This madness has to stop. Lawmakers leave the business of lawmaking to turn contractors. Fed. Govt. build roads, state and Local govt. do too, why would these whoping sums be appropriated for projects we all know won't see the light of day in the name of constituency project
5/ On this International Women's Day, let's stand in solidarity with the kidnapped women, their families, and all women in Nigeria who continue to face challenges. Together, we must work towards a future where every woman can thrive in safety and dignity. #IWD2024 🥂
1/ Today, as we commemorate International Women's Day, it's crucial to remember the 200+ women reportedly kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State, Nigeria. They were taken from Gamboru-Ngala and Dikwa LGA while searching for firewood. #InternationalWomensDay#Nigeria
4/ Nigeria's leadership must prioritize sustainable development, especially with 2030 on the horizon. We need leaders who are committed to ensuring safety, security, and access to clean energy for all citizens. #2030Agenda#Leadership
The elected legislators need to wake up.
