🚂 Anyone Want to Buy a 1960 Hitachi Locomotive?
Here’s something you don’t see advertised for sale every day in Thailand — an apparently operational Hitachi industrial diesel locomotive dating from around 1960.
The asking price is 2.4 million baht, and apparently that even includes delivery anywhere in Thailand. Finding somewhere to put it might be the more difficult part!
This isn’t one of the large Hitachi locomotives once used by the State Railway of Thailand. It’s a much smaller two-axle shunting locomotive, the sort of machine Hitachi produced for factories, mines, ports and private industrial railways during this period.
It appears to have been beautifully restored, right down to the wonderfully old-fashioned driver’s controls and mechanical side rods.
What I haven’t been able to establish yet is where locomotive No. 2 originally worked in Thailand. If anyone recognises it or knows its history, I’d be interested to hear more.
Price: 2,400,000 baht — delivery included.
I suspect most of us have neither the spare cash nor enough railway in the back garden, but it’s certainly an interesting piece of railway history to see offered for sale.
