#TheGambia | 📄 At today’s kickoff event in #Banjul, ICTJ’s Samba Jawo and Camila Castellanos Forero are presenting findings from our new report on victims’ access to medical care, alongside @AVLOGambia, the @PostTRRC_Gambia, and the Reparations Commission.
The report finds ongoing barriers: centralized services, weak communication, long delays, financial burdens, & limited specialist & mental-health support. Victims call for decentralized, inclusive, & victim-centered care as the system transitions under the Reparations Commission.
Opening the event, @DidierGbery, ICTJ’s Head of Programs in #TheGambia, highlighted why monitoring is essential to a credible TJ process & thanked all partners including @AVLOGambia, @PostTRRC_Gambia, & the Reparations Commission for their collaboration and commitment to victims.
@DidierGbery@AVLOGambia@PostTRRC_Gambia Kaddijatou Kuyateh, speaking on behalf of @AVLOGambia, emphasized that today’s report launch is a commitment to action, not just a publication. She called for renewed efforts to ensure #justice is accessible, meaningful, and survivor-centered.
@DidierGbery@AVLOGambia@PostTRRC_Gambia@VRCGambia Mrs. Fatou Jatta, a female victims’ representative, shared her experience. She highlighted challenges in accessing the interim medical board: delays in appointments, long waiting hours, difficulty obtaining medical reports, and lack of government support for overseas treatment.
