@Yuchenj_UW I'm writing a book defending engineering values, rigor & correctness & about management practices that can lead to fatal tragedies, & oddly I found Gemini the only one that seems to 'get it' & talk straight, I hope this doesn't change
New book: I just launched the early access page for my engineering manifesto: "Who Moved my Safety Design Notes?"
It's a from-the-trenches look at how corporate practices can sabotage (sometimes safety-critical) deep work

Some excellent news for Dave Gnukem: a community member is creating Fedora packages! ๐๐ง alongside our existing Debian, Ubuntu & other packages.

So, a funny, linguistically interesting moment of confusion yesterday, I ordered chicken chow mein in a Chinese restaurant in SA. I know "Mein" means noodles very well (as my first Chinese girlfriend taught me that maybe 20 years ago, taught me how to pronounce it, and I used it many times also later while traveling) so I thought when I asked for "Chicken Chow Mein" I felt I had expressed that I want noodles.
Then I was confused for a moment when the waitress said, "do you want rice or noodles?" and pointed to the menu, and I was confused for a moment, and I saw there were two Chicken Chow Mein headings, one rice, one noodles. I said "I said I want noodles, um, mein *means* noodles" (thinking 'didn't I already ask?') and she looked confused for a moment, trying to follow. Then I realized.
So I just said "OK, I want Chicken Chow Mein with NOODLES please" โ feeling redundant like I am saying it twice๐
While I understand the theory behind the 'move your mouse' entropy step of software like Veracrypt, is there a universe where someone really got their drive cracked because they didn't 'move the mouse randomly enough'?
True story, I once asked the AI as a joke to design a 'funny parody network architecture' that has 'too many layers', and the design it came up with looked suspiciously similar to my own actual TLex/tlTerm client/server and integrated API code ๐
Testing it more here and I am impressed ... Wine handles well our TLex/tlTerm support for fast loading of huge TBX files with millions of entries/terms, such as the large IATE EU terminology datasets!
Loads thousands of enries per second.
Making some changes in our apps (TLex, tlTerm, tlCorpus, tlReader, tlDatabase) that should greatly improve usability on Wine on Linux in our next release!
You can also try run our installers in your Wine setup:
wine TLex_Suite_Setup.exe
wine tlTerm_Setup.exe
@WineHQ@tshwanedje
Give it a try if you use Wine.
You can also try our 'portable builds' of TLex, tlTerm etc. in Wine instead of our installers.
(Note, select 'View menu' 'HTML window provider/wxWidgets' in Wine)
(This is 'not officially supported' and should be considered beta.)
Just released 3 new cross-platform open source tools I now use all the time:
โข for-each โ easily run command per line of input
โข clipx โ pipe anything to/from clipboard
โข keep-going
Examples:
echo hi | clipx
cat repolist.txt | for-each git clone
Productivity-enhancing ... signed Windows binaries:

Added a CUDA molecular simulation demo (Lennard-Jones + Verlet)
~100k particles on laptop GPU here
Cross-platform; Docker/headless/K8s support
Built as foundations toward larger goals: disease, aging/longevity, space
Open to funding, sponsorship, collabs, GPU dev roles, more

X is absolutely awful, what are some good alternatives to try? Even though I'm paying "Premium" my account is restricted, support refuses to fix it or help and sends me in circles, and not only that we tried to create a new account for DJ Software and it auto "suspended" it.
