First physical game since about 2023(Super Mario RPG). And its Unicorn Overlord. Got it for $32. Hope it lands on PC in the future considering Vanillaware is now bringing some games to PC. Although I'm 99% digital these days due to PC as my preference, physical is still important

The Beauty of Episode 3 of Lanterns is the nuance.

Everyone is wrong: John, John’s Parents, The Guardians, Hal.

Told from John's POV, we see how he was raised in an abusive household with the show framing that abuse from the POV of the victim.

John’s parents use fear of racial prejudice as a tool to abuse their son into becoming a green lantern. Racism is real and affects so many people. However, the ring is explicitly portrayed as having chosen John's father before Hal.

The show tells us in that opening scene why the ring chose Hal and why Hal is fearless: he watched his father explode in front of him as a child in a plane and Hal overcame that fear and became a pilot just like him. Hal is equally as fucked up by trauma.

What we also see in that scene is the Stewarts' refusal to acknowledge Hal’s humanity or identity because they won’t let John watch his interview.

This show is looking to exam race, racism, and racial prejudice from multiple angles all while honoring the main themes of legacy and fear.

There is so much going on in this episode and it asks a deep level of critical thinking from its audience. I can’t wait for John and Hal to eventually trauma bond and gain respect for each other.

What’s great about that line is that it’s wrong, they used systemic racism as a shield from their failings as parents.

Completely dismissing Hal’s trauma of why he’s fearless from losing his dad. The irony is, a black man was chosen first, not Hal.
