A Somali woman flees a war as a child, settles in Britain, works as a housing officer, rises through local government, and wins a by-election for a seat once held by a former prime minister. Voters in her constituency chose her. That is how democracy works.

Then there is @ValentinaForUSA . Born in Colombia, she moved to the United States as a kid and later built a profile around anti-Islam stunts, including burning a Quran. Earlier this year the UK Home Office blocked her from entering the country, deciding her presence would not be conducive to the public good after she planned to speak at a Tommy Robinson rally. She responded by talking about arriving on a small boat instead.

Now she is posting from America, calling the new MP a “fat muslim somalian” from a “shit hole nation” and declaring that England has been conquered. One woman arrived as a refugee, followed the rules, and got elected by British voters. The other arrived as an immigrant, got herself barred from the country she is lecturing, and still claims the right to tell Britons their democracy is finished.

The irony does not need much explanation.
