Angel Reese has been solid through the first 10 games of the season, and tomorrow she'll face her former team for the first time as the Atlanta Dream take on the Chicago Sky.
Reese was selected by Chicago with the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She joined a Sky team that was entering a rebuilding era after sneaking into the playoffs as the eighth and final seed in 2023. By the time Reese arrived, three of Chicago’s top five scorers from the previous season—Courtney Williams, Kahleah Copper, and Alanna Smith—had already moved on, while Marina Mabrey, another top-five scorer, was traded during the season.
Even with all the roster turnover, Reese wasted little time making history. During her time with the Sky, she set multiple records, including the highest single-season rebounding average in WNBA history, the longest consecutive double-double streak, and becoming the fastest frontcourt player to record a triple-double.
She also earned two All-Star selections and last season was one of only two players, alongside Breanna Stewart, to finish among the league’s top 25 in all five main statistical categories.
Now with Atlanta, Reese is continuing that production. She is one of just three players averaging a double-double, leads the league in rebounds, ranks among the league leaders in steals+blocks per game, and is just outside the top 25 in assists per game. She’s also coming off one of her best performances of the season, finishing with 18 points, 17 rebounds, and four steals in just 24 minutes during a win over Washington. The Dream are (4-0) this season when Angel scores at least 15 points.
Tomorrow’s game will mark the first meeting between Reese and the franchise where her WNBA career began. Can she help lead the Dream to their eighth win of the season? We’ll find out soon enough. 🪄
