BREAKING: Democratic Congressman Greg Casar stands tall against MAGA fascism and proudly announces that he will be running for reelection — even after Republicans gerrymandered his district.

"Donald Trump and Greg Abbott don't want a guy like me in Congress because I didn't start my career in the courtroom or the C-suite. I started it here on Austin construction sites as a labor organizer fighting alongside workers to win or raise a union and a right to water breaks," Casar said in an announcement video.

"I learned two important lessons. One: when working people stand together, Black, white, Latino, immigrant and native born we win," he continued. "And two: when you're taking on corrupt politicians and big corporations you don't roll over and play dead. We stand up and fight back."

"I took those lessons to the Austin City Council where we built more affordable housing, raised the minimum wage, and saved our local Planned Parenthood," said Casar. "Then Austin sent me to Congress. But you didn't elect me to go learn the same broken playbook Democrats have used for decades. You sent me to write a new one. So I'm doing things differently."

The video touts Casar's election to lead the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

"I'm taking on Trump, his billionaire buddies, and their puppet politicians," said Casar. The video then plays a clip of the congressman slamming Republicans for cutting Medicaid — which they slashed by a $1 trillion with the "big, beautiful bill."

"I don't take corporate PAC money. I don't trade stocks and I'm working to get big money out of politics once and for all because the lessons I learned on constructions sites are still true," said Casar.

“I love Austin, Texas so damn much. This is where I started my career, met the love of my life, started my family," Casar went on.

"I may not have millions in the bank or decades of connections, but what I do have is you and we’re not going anywhere," he concluded.

Casar's campaign stated that he will be running even if the congressional maps that were recently rammed through by the Republican-controlled state House and Senate are signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott. The maps were drawn up to create five new Republican-leaning districts after Donald Trump personally requested assistance in helping hold the U.S. House in the midterm elections. They represent nothing less than an all out assault on democracy itself.

The new maps will cram Casar's district in with that of Democratic Congressman Lloyd Doggett, intentionally diluting the votes of their constituents in the process. Doggett, who is 78, has already announced that he will not be running if the courts uphold the new maps.

Casar addressed the gerrymandering in a separate X statement—

“Trump and Abbott just rammed through maps designed to kick people like me out of office. They don’t want me in Congress because they don’t want us to be heard. But we’re not going anywhere,” he wrote.

His campaign pointed out that the new version of District 37 still "includes Casar’s home, 250,000 of his current constituents, and his former city council district.” In other words, he's the right man for the job.
