In March & April 2024, we will be producing an original adaptation of THE MASTER & MARGARITA (based on the classic novel by Mikhail Bulgakov) at 12th Ave Arts, and directed, translated, and adapted by Dacha’s co-artistic director Mike Lion!

🧜‍♀️🌦️🪸👑🌊 The original story of The Little Mermaid is not for the squeamish. Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid has her tongue cut out by the sea witch in exchange for human legs. She then suffers with every step she takes, as walking feels like stepping on knives.

🧜‍♀️🌦️🪸👑🌊 In Hans Christian Andersen’s original version of The Little Mermaid, one of the Little Mermaid’s concerns is that mermaids don’t have souls - though they do live for 300 years. According to Andersen, all humans have immortal souls, rendering them superior to mermaids.

🧜‍♀️🌦️🪸👑🌊 Hans Christian Andersen was inspired by Undine by Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué when writing The Little Mermaid. In Undine, a water spirit must marry a human in order to gain a soul.

🌦️👑🧜‍♀️💨☔️ In addition to his baffling behavior, Andersen extended his stay by 3 additional weeks. After his departure, the Dickens family generally rejoiced and Andersen only exchanged one more letter with Dickens.
