@gghamari Fuck you bitch. You’re a disgrace to our nation, wash your filthy mouth out of our country. You’re not Iranian, wishing the destruction of our country. Shame on YOU
I don’t agree with Leili politically on everything. She is also my friend. I will always stand for women’s rights and safety. All of those things can be true at the same time.
But that is irrelevant right now.
A woman in our community showed visible signs of abuse and spoke about it publicly – in a society where, for centuries, across monarchies and republics alike, women have been conditioned into silence. Into secrecy. Into protecting family reputation over their own safety. Into swallowing violence so the “image” remains intact.
And what did she receive? Mockery. Suspicion. Political weaponization. Opportunistic attacks. From the same people who claim to stand for freedom.
Some of the loudest attacks are coming from Pahlavists – against a woman who has stood with Reza Pahlavi. Think about that. If loyalty does not protect you, what exactly is the standard? Absolute submission?
At the same time, many others – including feminists and people who may not even identify with that label but who believe in women’s rights and human dignity – rallied behind her regardless of political stripes. That line of defense, the one that cuts across factional divides and centers equity, safety, and dignity for women, is incredibly valuable. It is the kind of solidarity that actually means something.
Political disagreement is one thing. Demoralizing and humiliating a woman for speaking about abuse is another.
Whether this regime stays or falls, whether protests are crushed or succeed, whether war comes or doesn’t, domestic violence does not pause for geopolitics. Abuse does not wait for regime change. Real life does not suspend itself for ideology.
If we cannot show up for each other now, on something this basic and human, then what kind of “unity” are we even talking about?
You can disagree with her politics. You can debate her strategy. But weaponizing a woman’s abuse for factional gain? Enough is enough!
And Reza Pahlavi, if you do not publicly call this out, and if Shahin Najafi continues to orbit your campaign after degrading a woman who spoke about abuse, then you do not get to invoke the suffering of women in Iran as moral capital.
You don’t get to say their names when it’s convenient. You don’t get to borrow their pain for legitimacy. You don’t get to stand on their wounds while tolerating this behavior in your own camp. Moral leadership is not selective.
I stand with @Leilibazargan.

While we engage in petty squabbles, the people of Iran are paying for freedom with their lives.
For their sake, how about we trade in our intransigence for unity?
Before you tweet, ask yourself if it unites or divides us in their just cause
