She tied her babies to a rope… and walked into the deep end of a pool.
An infant.
A toddler.
A small child.
All bound together.
All bound to their mother.
Authorities say 31‑year‑old Shaniece Julicia Willingham went live on Instagram moments before, telling viewers she “couldn’t do it anymore” and that her children would be “safer with God.”
Hours earlier, she had reportedly argued with the children’s father, been told to leave her mother’s home, and reached out for help.
Somewhere in that chaos, she made a decision that nearly took four lives.
Investigators say she drove to a community pool on Sacramento Street, wrapped a rope around herself and her children, and stepped into the water.
Family members watching the livestream raced to the scene.
Those babies were underwater for almost a minute.
By nothing short of a miracle, they survived.
Shaniece is now charged with three counts of first‑degree premeditated attempted murder.
Reports show a history of bipolar disorder, Baker Act interventions, and postpartum depression.
And while nothing can justify what happened, there’s a truth we keep ignoring:
Mothers are drowning long before anyone notices.
Children deserve protection.
Families deserve help before tragedy becomes news.
