[Chris @MLG_Chris_]

It’s been an incredibly tough day.

Our team learned yesterday that Activision Blizzard has decided to shut down @GameBattles, the last remaining branch of @MLG, by mid January. The entire team at GameBattles has been notified that we’re all being let go as part of the closure.

I joined GameBattles & MLG over 10 years ago as a volunteer referee looking for something to do with my spare time. I never imagined I’d be where I am today, and I’m forever grateful to those who took a chance on me throughout my time here.

I couldn’t have asked for a better year to end on. Supporting Warzone/WSOW earlier this year has genuinely been a dream come true, and I’m proud to have been involved in the first ever in-person Global Final for the WSOW. I’m excited for the future of the scene & I’ll be rooting for continued success from the sidelines.

This didn’t have to happen. There’s so much untapped potential with MLG, GameBattles and the future of Esports. I hope one day both MLG & GB get the attention & internal support they deserve—not for me or anyone who worked here, but for the amazing community they created over the years.

I’m not sure what’s next for me, but I hope to stay within the industry and continue doing what I truly love. I feel heartbroken for all my talented friends and colleagues who I’ll be joining on the job hunt as we all navigate this next difficult chapter. With that being said, I’m in the process of looking for new work. Any recommendations are much appreciated!

Thank you all for your support over the past decade. ❤️
