Another crucial (but often overlooked) factor re SPL is what I call the "Birthday Peg" - WHEN fathers can take enhanced paid leave is often just as important as WHETHER they can take it. If enhanced pay is pegged to the birth date - uptake becomes much less likely / useful.

I think it's easy to say SPL has been a failure, but looking at my league, I'd actually say #SPL has been pivotal catalyst in helping change attitudes. You mention @avivaplc Aviva, but @SLA_plc offer by far the best SPL policy in UK and others are following their lead.

@CushWakeUK Congratulations on your new #sharedparentalleave policy! Which gives men 6 weeks enhanced full pay. Can I ask, why didn't you match your maternity allowance (26 wks full pay), so that parents are incentivised to split leave equally?
