On the same day as Kirk’s rise, a white shooter targeted a Colorado school, while HBCUs faced bomb threats. Despite white-on-white crime, Black colleges were attacked, and neo-Nazis marched openly in California.

Yet, Black conservatives criticized us for refusing to mourn, pointing to a double standard: White shooters are seen as mentally ill, while Black kids defending themselves are labeled thugs. White deaths are tragedies, but our grief is called hate.
