R.I.P. Charlie Kirk

I didn't know Charlie personally. But he did send me a kind message last year. "I love all people" is what he said. If that is any indication of who the man was, then this country has lost someone special today.

Partisan politics did not stand in the way of him paying me a compliment, and it should not stand in the way of mourning him either.

We cannot become a society where expressing political views, even controversial ones, leads to violence. Whatever you think of his politics, Charlie was a decent man, a patriot, and a brave defender of his values. My heart goes out to his wife and his kids.

Some things I believe about the misinformation sciences, such as they are:

1. Everyone gets things wrong sometimes, especially about science.

2. Groups that police others for misinformation often get things wrong, especially when they invoke science. When they do, they often libel the people who are right.

3. Governments are a primary source of misinformation, especially about public health and science.

4. The academic discipline purporting to police disinformation selectively ignores government disinformation. As such, their primary purpose is to promote the propaganda of the powerful.

5. There is no shortcut for scientists arguing with each other to inch towards scientific truth.

6. Anyone or any group claiming to be the sole arbiter of scientific truth is very likely promoting propaganda.

@MarioNawfal It hasn’t been three years since the vaccine has been rolled out. I don’t understand why that keeps being repeated. It’s been just over two years (since mid December 2020). And most young people didn’t get it until 3-5 months after that point. For clarity purposes.
