@SecDuffy @USDOT Dear Mr. Secretary, over the past five years, I have noticed a dramatic and troubling increase in wheelchair assistance requests on commercial flights. It has gone from two or three passengers per flight to nearly half the plane using pre-boarding assistance.
​The real issue becomes obvious upon arrival: many who requested full assistance suddenly walk off the plane completely unassisted, often accompanied by large groups. This clear abuse of the system strains gate staff, causes boarding delays, and hurts passengers with genuine disabilities who truly depend on these services.
​It is time for the USDOT to intervene. Requiring basic medical certification or standardized proof of need would restore integrity to the pre-boarding process and ensure assistance goes strictly to those who genuinely require it.
