The credits include:
1⃣ Retention Credit – $20K each for the first 5 full-time qualifying journalists; $15K for each additional full-time journalist
2⃣ Part-Time Credit – $7.5K per qualifying part-time journalist
3⃣ New-Hire Credit – $15K per qualifying new-position hire
The Community NEWS Act (AB 2222), introduced by Assemblymember Christopher M. Ward, would award refundable tax credits to California local news organizations to help offset wages for full-time and part-time local journalists.
Last week, a bipartisan supermajority of California Assemblymembers voted 63-10 to advance a local journalist employment credit bill sponsored by Rebuild Local News, sending the measure to the Senate for consideration.
