As an autistic person: Some of your friends are neurodivergent. Which means they may deal with a phenomenon called rejection sensitivity dysphoria (RSD) while not a formal diagnosis it is something that’s commonly observed with neurodivergent ppl & some therapist may use this term to help describe what said person is feeling. Whether the rejection is real or just in our head.

So you may invite me somewhere. I’ll agree bc i may wanna go, but then cancel last minute bc I psyched myself out by thinking about things like “What if I make a fool of myself, what if I tell a joke that doesn’t land & make it awkward for everybody, etc etc” this might result in your neurodivergent friends only hanging with you in the spaces they deem safe. The spaces yall typically hang out. Please don’t take this as a “they just don’t like me/always flake on me”
