What I personally think AI will do in this 2026
➠1, sports.
Any kind of sports, American football, European football (aka soccer), basketball, skiing, swimming, gymnastics, running, tennis, darts, fencing, weight lifting, even dance competitions. Any kind of competition or even just a show (like ballet) of physical prowess.
AI will be able to do this. Not in the sense of replacing humans with machines competing against machines, but in reshaping what performance looks like.
AI will understand bodies at a level we never have, movement, balance, force, recovery, fatigue. It will train athletes more efficiently, extend careers, and raise ceilings that once felt fixed.
People will still care about watching humans, but what they are really watching will change. When someone lifts 350 pounds over their head, the admiration will include the system that made that possible.
The preparation, the optimization, the avoidance of injury. AI will be part of the achievement, even if it stays invisible.
➠ Machines that can run impossibly fast will not be spectacles on their own.
They will be tools. We will study them, extract lessons, and apply them back to human performance. The interest will not be in the machine itself, but in how much closer humans can now get to their limits.
➠ the same applies to music and performance. AI will be able to play instruments at a virtuosic level.
Perfect timing, perfect pitch, flawless execution. That will not end human performance. It will change what we value in it. When perfection is easy, expression becomes the point.
A robot playing a symphony will prove that it can be done. A human playing it will still matter, but for different reasons. Choice, interpretation, restraint, emotion.
➠ The same goes for drawing, caricature, and other performative arts. AI will be able to do them. Humans will be judged by why and how they do them.
➠ 2, works of imagination.
Including story writing (novels, short stories, screenplays, stage plays, even comic books), humor (stand up comics, written, etc), art (sculpture, painting, comics), etc.
AI will be able to do this as well. It will write stories, generate jokes, create images, and produce variations endlessly. It will understand structure, pacing, setup, and payoff. Over time, it will become less obviously derivative and more capable of producing work that feels new.
This does not mean it replaces humans completely, but it does mean it can take over large parts of the process. Drafting, exploring directions, generating alternatives, testing ideas.
What used to take months will take minutes.
Humor will still be interesting because of delivery and context, but AI will be able to generate jokes that work.
Stories will still need selection and direction, but AI will be able to generate characters, plots, and worlds that are compelling enough to choose from.
The role of the human will shift. Not from creator to spectator, but from generator to editor, director, and judge. Some people will be better at this than others. Taste will matter more than output.
AI will be able to imagine. What will remain human is deciding which imagination is worth keeping.
