Easter Timeline

I should have posted this last night, as this time line starts with the Last Supper. I wrote this a couple years ago.

As Easter Sunday approaches, I wanted to offer a mini-timeline of Jesus' last few hours:

Tonight, after dark, Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples. Before the feast, he washed all their feet to demonstrate, by example, how Christians are to love and serve one another. It was during this Last Supper, that Jesus established Communion.

Later that night, Jesus and his followers went to the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed in agony to His Father!

Luke's Gospel says " His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground". He knew what was to come.

Late that night in Gethsemane, Jesus was betrayed by a kiss, from Judas Iscariot. He was arrested by the Sanhedrin and taken to the High Priest (Caiaphas), where the Council had gathered to make their case against Jesus. After multiple trials, he was sentenced to death by crucifixion.

Before the third hour (approximately 9:00am Friday morning), Jesus was crucified. It was the most disgraceful way of capital punishment. He was mocked, beaten, spit on, and pierced with a crown of thorns. He was unrecognizable.

After his beating, he had to carry his own cross to Calvary, where the Roman Soldiers nailed him to the wooden cross.

On the cross, Jesus spoke 7 final statements, and here's two: His first words were, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing"! His last words were, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."

Then, approximately the ninth hour (3:00 pm), Jesus breathed his last breath and died. He stayed on the cross until approximately 6:00pm. He was removed by Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea, where they took His body to a tomb.

On Saturday, the tomb was guarded by Roman Soldiers.

On Resurrection Sunday, several women went to the tomb that morning and discovered the large stone covering the entrance had rolled away. An Angel announced, "Don't be afraid! I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is risen!"

On the day of his resurrection, Jesus Christ made at least 5 appearances that day. They were: Mary Magdalene, Peter, 2 disciples on the road to Emmaus, and later that day to all his disciples except Thomas.

This timeline is not all inclusive, but gives us a small tidbit into what Christ had to endure the last 24 hours of his life. He died for us.
