@Belyiand @GerardAraud The law will be applied like in the case of Mrs Sosoaca who was banned from this election due to extremist statements and violent behaviour which put her commitment to democracy under question. The right to be a presidential candidate is not absolute.

@RnaudBertrand I wonder whether you had all the information the Court was presented with but let’s say you did. Do you know anything about Romania? Because if you did you would know that the choice was clear: dismantle democracy or invalidate the vote. You may not care but we do.

@GerardAraud The strongest reason for the loss of trust in democracy in Romania is the general weakening of democracy in the west. The Constitutional Court’s decision may be a good lesson for older democracies as well. They are also facing the assault of anti-democratic forces.

@GerardAraud Romanian democracy is only 30 years old, communism destroyed all trace of the previous democratic tradition. At least half the population is strongly suspicious of democracy anyway. There is little trust to erode.
