@DonChambers82 @sportsinfive Of course he’s not now because he picked his side. But 5 years ago if the PGAT didn’t make him one of their key stakeholders he easily could have. If Tiger backed LIV at the beginning it would have overtaken the PGAT. The top players who were hesitant to leave would follow him.

@sportsinfive Yes, Rahm said that. But it’s clear he didn’t have a good pulse on the situation at all, and also overestimated his own importance. Rory doesn’t have the influence Tiger has. Whichever tour Tiger backed was going to be the one that survived.

The PGAT listens to Tiger because if they don’t, and he decides to break off to form his own tour, he’s influential enough to make it a success. That would be a death blow to the PGAT. Phil and Greg didn’t have that, why LIV failed.

@DonChambers82 @sportsinfive Yes, the PGAT has looked past Tiger’s poor decisions, as have many golf fans, because he’s Tiger and moves the needle. Maybe Phil is 2nd, maybe Rory is, but they are both so far in the distance they don’t matter, and certainly haven’t been calling the shots.

@mrmckee None of these players individually have a ton of value. That’s why the LIV contracts were incredibly ridiculous. The tour with the best collection of top-tier players has value. The PGAT won that battle by retaining most of those players. Tiger was and is the only exception.

@sportsinfive Tiger yes but Rory no. The PGAT used Rory as a mouthpiece when it was convenient but he’s not pulling any strings. Tiger is the most influential figure in golf, as he should be. Phil was never that, other than in his own head maybe.

@DonChambers82 @sportsinfive Because Tiger is the single most lucrative thing the PGAT has ever had, even with his issues. If he had embraced the LIV concept the pendulum probably would have swung their way. Phil isn’t in Tiger’s stratosphere from that perspective. Why would they listen to him?

@BrysonLegion Any comment on Bryson instructing one of his cronies to kick a reporter offer the range this morning for no legitimate reason? I don’t think your guy will go back to the PGAT even if they allow him back. Couldn’t handle it the first time which is partly why he left.
