Another day for ASL Community!
White House Press Secretary, @PressSec Jen Psaki confirms an American Sign Language interpreter will be present for daily briefings going forward.
Commitment of leaders by example: @JoeBiden@KamalaHarris@NAD1880
#deafed A5: I created and sent students home with paper packets for three weeks. Our district created grade level packets for the remaining time. Now we have to figure out how to adapt them accordingly for our students' needs.
#deafed A3: staying in contact using class dojo, google classroom, zoom, flip grid, text, and phone calls.
Set up daily quick check ins (zoom)to answer parent/student questions, inform of resources or assignments, and to help my students stay connected with each other. SEL time!
#deafed A2: Yesterday I felt the least overwhelmed I have thus far #day7. My son and I both agreed that we will not look at or talk about work or homework unless it is an emergency past 4 pm. We need to separate work/school work and home life!
@DaisyNordugo@CRODRIGUEZ2392 Anyone familiar with Peter Hauser's research on cultural capital in Deaf people?? Very significant here and if those professionals paid attention to that kind of research, they would support #ASL. #Deafed

@CRODRIGUEZ2392 I agree, We have administrators leading #deafed programs with ZERO knowledge and ZERO desire to learn or listen to their Pros. I believe that it starts in the hospital, how families are informed and everything that happens between birth and when they start school.
@rafnarr It is definitely a fight to do make the shift. Certified ASL interpreters are key in this issue in my opinion. In #deafed we have a variety of language needs and abilities, some of my students rely on spoken language and to have a terp helps me separate languages.
@malbeckford A7: We have to know our stuff too!Collaboration is key, our educational audiologist can't be in our classrooms daily but we can apply the knowledge into our lessons, utilize recommended strategies, and technology. It's a two way street. #deafed
@malbeckford A6: Incorporate more education laws in training programs, shadow an educational audiologist, and incorporate collaboration with other #deafed professionals.
#deafed Im interested to know the response to the second portion of this question, " how ..best leverage the services of the pediatric auds in their area?" @malbeckford I remember you mentioning that training simply isn't the same in our #SPED563
