When San Francisco installed jump proof fare gates, crime, vandalism and the need for janitorial services plummeted by as much as 90%. The notion we have to tolerate disorder and crime from people who won’t pay $1.50 because we feel sorry for them it is deeply corrosive.
I just feel like this whole thing is emblematic of what wrong with America’s religious conscience: trads want everyone to conform to a puritanical moral code. Libs want to be told that everything they do is morally acceptable.
In the Mediterranean, you can still do naughty things while embracing the doctrines of your religion. I’m free to be messy and morally inconsistent, while also accepting the objectivity of certain truth claims.
This way, the church can be welcoming to all without having to reject or be facetious about its doctrines. Americans would never understand this.
“LGBTQ+” is just not a very descriptive label. Even before, when it referred to everyone vaguely “not straight,” it didn’t tell you much. Now the term “bi” has been expanded to include basically every woman, without even needing to have relationships with women, “trans” has been expanded to include people whose only act to transition is maybe getting a haircut, and “queer” means apparently everything and nothing.
If you think a "gender confused" gay boy should have his puberty blocked, so he can better disguise himself as a straight woman when he grows up, you support conversion therapy.
This is an appalling idea which will make Britain's cities immeasurably worse. It is worth remembering, however, that it first emerged on the agenda when the Lib Dems secured the support of a large number of Tory MPs for this campaign around five years ago. If I remember rightly, Michael Gove endorsed the campaign and forced the Johnson Government into agreeing to repeal this.
In fact, the former Tory MP for Westminster and the City, was one of the loudest campaigners to repeal this law. It was in her seat that the illegal camps on Park Lane emerged, in her seat that the crowds of crackheads ballooned near Victoria Station, but she decided the law should be made nicer for homeless criminals instead of the people who live, work, visit and pay taxes in her constituency.

This is amazing.
Look at British TV. A woman has to go on there and justify that she shouldn’t have to be roasted alive while pregnant and should be able to use air conditioning.
This is considered a question worthy of debate among climate freaks.
You can understand why the force prefers policing the behaviour of ordinary citizens rather than criminals. They’re easy to find, and if you tell them “don’t do that” they’ll comply. Whereas finding criminals and making them follow the law unfortunately involves a lot of work.
Reminder that electricity in France is virtually carbon free. You can completely eliminate climate change as a consideration, fully solve the problem, and the environmental left will just move on to something else. They don’t love the planet. They hate life, themselves, and you.
A shop owner in my constituency was ignored by the police when he reported shoplifting.
But when he displayed pictures of the thieves, the police showed up - to tell him that those pictures violated GDPR.
Madness. A free run for criminals, while normal people get crushed.
Labour wants to make it illegal for parents - parents! - to know their own child better than the authorities, and to love them enough to tell them the truth
Five years in prison for knowing your son or daughter can’t change sex, and telling them so
They have to be stopped
You can run with this premise and the conclusion remains absurd.
The UK has rapidly decarbonised already. It has made no difference, because the UK's share of carbon emissions was already statistically insignificant — which is only becoming more true over time.
We could hit Net Zero. We could hit negative carbon. Nothing would change, because China and India exist, and they do not give a damn about our political gestures.
(This is evidenced by their emissions increasing almost as quickly as our political gestures have proliferated, and over the same timeframe.)
No amount of decarbonisation in the UK will make any difference to summer temperatures. This is not an ethical or an ideological point - I like the environment, I dislike excessive heat - it is a mathematical one.
All it does is make us poorer and less able to adapt to the new reality.
A policy of increasing carbon emissions would, paradoxically, improve our climate resilience, because we'd be able to afford basic infrastructure like air conditioning while adding nothing of note to global emissions.
The only reason this is not widely accepted is that political environmentalism is a virtue cult. It has no interest in climate science, it has no interest in tangible outcomes, it is entirely concerned with allowing mediocrities to play act saving the world.
"I grew up on a council estate" is not an excuse for failure. You are sacrificing the future of generations of kids on the altar of your class envy -reversing even Labour's academy reforms.
0% of teachers think you're doing a great job. I'm not here to give you a pat on the back.
I speak for those people whose lives you're destroying and I'll NEVER stop speaking up for them.
Believing that "people wouldn't do crimes if their basic needs were met" while also believing that "greedy rich people are stealing from everyone" never registers to the people who say this shit as inherently contradictory.
We just forced a vote in Parliament to stop the Puberty Blocker trial.
The Government voted it down.
These children are perfectly healthy. They need our care and support - not to be experimented on with life-changing drugs.
