Nami is the only girl in the story whose father figure receives a direct promise from Luffy to take care of her happiness.

The fathers of Vivi, Shirahoshi, and Rebecca never got such a promise. And Robin's joining was about her agency.

Why This Is Unique?

In Japanese storytelling, when a father or guardian entrusts a girl to a man, it often carries marriage or lifelong bond undertones.

Oda plays it platonic on the surface (as “keep her safe as your nakama”), but the cultural coding of that scene is much deeper than simple camaraderie.

This is backed by the fact that Luffy consistently shows extra sensitivity toward Nami’s emotional well-being.
