This will be a boon to the many states with little or no experience before the ICJ, and assist many others as they draft submissions and prepare to engage in the proceedings.
Time limits for the written statements are now 22 January 2024, written comments/replies 22 April 2024.

Today, together with @CostaRicaONU we hosted a panel discussion on ICJ Advisory Opinion procedure and what to expect next. Prof. @clevelandICJ presented a comprehensive take on ICJAO procedure from adoption till such a request reaches the court, while Amb. @KoonjulJagdish reflected on his experience navigating the Chagos Advisory Opinion. Incredibly rich discussion with practical suggestions on what states can do next. @luciasolano expertly moderated the panel providing insight from her own experience with the ICJ. Today, the Human Rights Committee, held that Australia has violated the rights of Torres Strait Islanders by failing to protect them from climate change. This is the most important climate decision yet issued by an international human rights tribunal. 1/12
Today our President made his statement before the General Assembly on the #ICJAO4Climate saying: "We believe that taking climate change to the ICJ is a global public good and will further support the progressive development of international law."
