Inexpensive remote soil monitoring down to 50cm below the surface. Soil moisture & temperature, plus ground movement detection. Real-time data, from anywhere.
A short, sudden burst of rain yesterday near Oughtershaw, NYorks. You can see the how it affected #soilmoisture, #overlandflow, the River Wharfe levels, and soil temperature.
Plenty of these being installed by @daleslandnet in time for spring. Measuring soil moisture and temperature down to 50cm, the probes will help fertiliser decision making on both timing and amount, improving NUE 🌡️
The water table monitors that we helped install with Northumberland Peat Partnership are already showing the relationship between rainfall and movement in the water table level.

Lots of interest in the LoRaWAN project today from flood wardens discussing what information would be most useful from a network of digital sensors.
West Yorkshire Flood Innovation Programme is looking at whether the network could reduce surface water #flooding.
The data from our units has pointed to a high fire risk on Ilkley Moor. A warm month shows the top layer drying out (blue, upper) and the temp getting to 40C (blue, lower). Thankfully the rains came to raise the moisture and lower the temp. @Bradford_CROW
It is #NationalTreeWeek and many will instantly visualise a strong-standing, deep-rooted tree. But what about trees that are in-stream? Read this recent risk-based network analysis of distributed in-stream

Great to see through @COP26 & good advocacy by @DefraGovUK and especially our partners @moorsforfuture increasing recognition of Peatlands we still have a huge challenge at the southern end of the Great North Bog, front line of climate change. We are not done yet.
Have a look at this fantastic video by Debbie Coldwell @DonCatchmentRT that was enjoyed by our delegates.
It shows drone footage of a virtual site visit to see some natural #flood management put into practice in 6 hectares of land near #Chesterfield#NFMCoP@EnvAgencyYNE
Participants at #NFMCoP heard about natural #flood management work underway by @DonCatchmentRT near Chesterfield.
This is the last volunteer day before lockdown preparing leaky dams #NFM at Newfield Spring Wood.
A new iCASP project will start in June https://t.co/tvW9CdDoP9
Every drop of water in your tap is extracted from the environment and undergoes a long treatment process. Like other industrial processes, this one has a carbon footprint, which is why it’s so important to value water and all the things it enables us to do. #pledge2021#waterwise
Did you know that a healthy peatland can ‘breathe’?😲
As it rains the water levels on the bog surface will rise slightly and the peat surface rises with it🌨️
