Thousands die in Scotland every month, precisely because of the union. Poverty is what the union has provided for Scotland since Thatcher, the number one killer of Scots since that time.

Burnham doesn't understand Scotland, and he's clearly fine with that. If he thinks that support for independence can be blunted with stentorian emotional statements that offer nothing concrete, he hasn't been paying attention.

The monarchy, House of Lords, Trident, the closure of Grangemouth -- there has been not one mention of any of that. He is, to all intents, a gas and water social democrat advocating small measures at a time when nothing less than radical reform will do.
