We are reforming the coffee sector to put more money in the pockets of our farmers. Through reforms that have strengthened cooperatives, improved market access and protected farmers' earnings, coffee prices have risen from between KSh30 and KSh70 to KSh120 to KSh160 a kilo over the past two years.
We are also ensuring that at least 80 per cent of every coffee sale goes directly to the farmer while payments will be made within five days of a sale.
To accelerate this progress, we are supporting farmers with subsidised fertiliser, quality seedlings, improved extension services and modern farming practices to increase productivity, lower production costs and expand acreage under coffee.
Additionally, we are moving away from export of raw coffee to local processing, packaging and branding so that more value is retained in Kenya, more jobs are created in the country and our farmers earn more from the crop they produce.
Presided over the launch of the National Coffee Revival Through Cooperative Societies Programme in Kianyaga, Kirinyaga County.
Honoured to host the 95th St John Ambulance Annual Parade and Inspection at State House, Nairobi.
As first responders, St John Ambulance volunteers are often the first people on the scene when accidents and other disasters strike. The 62,000 volunteers play an indispensable role in easing victims’ pain.
Beyond emergency response, the organisation mentors young people, instilling discipline, promoting civic responsibility, and standing with vulnerable communities.
To strengthen emergency care, we are setting up a National Ambulance Dispatch Centre in Nairobi, which will coordinate activities and ensure faster arrival times. The service will be free for every Kenyan.
We have also increased funding for Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund under the Social Health Authority (SHA). Consequently, the Government will pay for emergency evacuation and treatment for all Kenyans within the first 24 hours.
To support St John Ambulance's noble work, we have allocated the organisation land in Nairobi. Additionally, we have engaged Parliament so that it takes over the St John Ambulance office next to the Legislature at a cost of KSh300 million.
This will enable the organisation to build a modern headquarters. The Government will also provide KSh200 million for the construction of St John Ambulance offices.
We will further purchase 15 new ambulances for the organisation and register them under SHA.
