Record labels been moving the goal post for artist of their choice for decades. Nas was considered platinum in the streets with Illmatic but the album really didn’t sell.
That was the first time any label rolled out a single/album in that fashion and without that Nas would have probably never became a platinum artist and he never really had to chase a radio hit again.

@thtgoodbreakfst Yeah same as most of his projects. Always find 4 or 5 incredible songs but rest of songs I don’t like. I don’t listen to his music often after the first couple listens though.
