This is a notable quote from Intel’s CEO to remind everyone why you don’t want to under-invest to fall behind in the AI race. The risks are far greater than over-investment in the long run.

Nvidia started ramping up investments in deep learning and AI accelerators back in the days envisioning the AI revolution that will drive astronomical demand for data computing and factories of AI data centers to be powered by Nvidia’s GPUs to meet the demand. Nvidia also focused on software developments concurrently to create an impenetrable moat via CUDA which is only compatible w/ Nvidia’s GPUs.

While data center segment was overall growing sequentially, it didn’t take off until the recent years. In other words, Nvidia did not immediately reap the benefits of their AI investments which Nvidia continuously made for over a decade.

The technological gap between Intel and Nvidia has widen so much over the years due to Intel’s under-investment for over a decade that it becomes almost impossible for Intel to catch up at this point.

Google’s CEO gets it. Zuck gets it. Elon gets is . Satya gets it. The ones who demand the AI capex to be immediately absorbed by higher revenue within a year or two don’t get it.
