I have made a Patreon article free for all members, my research on how SSI was basically forced to develop two Buck Rogers games that, despite no one even being interested in the character, ended up among the more interesting RPGs the company made in the early 90s. Link below.๐
@L1nko64@GOGcom But hey didn't send it to the German community out of respect for local sensitivities. Interestingly this simply meant not sending it to German, since it was still sent to Germans abroad lol.
@menos_trece It is a very similar situation for Italy. It's just not worth it to invest money to translate games into Italian, since the market is small and people aren't buying enough. But then there are cases where devs get "roped" into translating them and I'm not sure what's going on
Years before Rockstar's Bully, in Italy we had Tabboz Simulator. Released to great success in 1997, it was a simple Tamagotchi-like "white trash" simulator where you could get into fights with metalheads, get a girlfriend, modify your scooter and buy loads of furry clothes.
Did Peter Gabriel teach you how to put on a condom in his multimedia cd? Did David Bowie? No. As usual, Italy goes where no one dares. Here's a clip from Jovanotti's 1994 multimedia experience Il Ballerino.

In 2024, with @timeextension64 and @SlopesGameRoom and @gugames_eu, there was a kerfuffle about Massimiliano Mapelli and his Lucasarts Book Kickstarter, that seemed AI-gen slop taken from Wikipedia & GameFaqs.
Then he made a successful KS for almost 4k โฌ.
What happened next?๐งต
@Adventgamepod The guy seems legit as he's in EVERY facebook post by Mapelli denouncing the scam but... why is he the ONLY one to have received the PDF? HMMMMMMM

@Adventgamepod Yep, sad to say we were all expecting it to turn out this way. Interestingly there's a backer who said he did receive the PDF (nobody else confirmed it) and he mentions wanting to sell it for 5โฌ. Maybe... I should buy it? ๐
TL;DR, seems like most of this Kickstarter was vaporware. 4k EUR might not be a princely sum, but for a book that was going to be rewritten from Wikipedia and Gamefaqs? Quite a bit. This looked dubious from the start so, well, sorry about the people who spent 100โฌ on this.
In December 2024 he mentioned problems printing the book and having to find another printer. Last update November 2025, he was preparing to ship the books and attached a photo.
All comments from users (most Italian) denounce never receiving anything, not even the digital copy.
30+ years ago Amiga Power was seeing a dark future for game reviews, with things like PR Man on our shoulders, "if you like the genre you'll want to play this" and - most dreadfully - the score of Satan (73%) aka the "I couldn't be bothered to play this for more than 30 mins".
