@mrdanwalker@davidyelland@BobbyManzi Technology is so good now that the Beeb can create amazing wrap-around sets suitable for its analysts. Messrs Keane & Wright, brilliant as they are, aren’t at the games either & so are watching on a screen like their Beeb oppos - & the road noise in the background is awful
@KathrynPorter26@CAFOD@energygovuk@Ed_Miliband The most effective way for billions in the global south to be lifted out of poverty is via cheap, reliable energy - light, heat, cooking. That comes through hydrocarbons.
It can replace wood/dung cooking & heating. This CAFOD nonsense will enshrine poverty
@TorstenBell Odd way of looking at energy - UKCS provides billions in taxation & Treasury knows that if EPL ends £12bn extra tax wil come over next decade or so, plus upwards of £20bn in new investment. And high paying jobs. You’re doing what you blame Thatcher for: deindustrialising
@JeevunSandher And the 200,000 high paying, high tax jobs you’re destroying with your closure of the North Sea & £20bn-plus of investment ignored, not to mention £12bn in extra tax to Treasury from ending the EPL?
Ignore that? What a waste. Deindustrialisation by Labour. Shocking
@KirstieMAllsopp I wouldn’t get away with an egg cup appearing without some serious questions, but a coffee maker, Lalique salt and pepper set (who even knew these things exist?), and I don’t think the motorhome squeezed into the pots and pans cupboard would be missed….
@AndyBurnhamGM@twcuddleston Andy, 200,000 jobs - many in the North-west and North-east - at risk of being lost in the UK North Sea, plus billions in taxes and investment. Will you open up the North Sea again?
Or do we continue to spend £20bn a year buying gas from Norway?
@afneil And will he support the British workers being cast aside by Ed Miliband, and allow oil and gas to be extracted from the North Sea raising huge revenues, giving us energy security and ploughing major investment back into UK PLC? I hope so…
@silvrstonederek@LivingTricks_ Also, how is ‘There’s a’ on a boat ‘in’ a lake? Surely the boat would be on a lake otherwise she’d be very wet, drowned or possibly both….
@afneil Listen to what the boss of Huntsman chemicals said on the WATO today on R4. He was clear and emphatic. It will lead to the end of chemical production in the UK
@georgeeaton The decline of the North Sea has been exacerbated by policy - why is Norway still exploring and finding huge reserves. Equinor has pledged to drill 250 exploration wells innthe next decade alone. Our reserves need replacing and government is banning it.
@JeevunSandher Our hydrocarbons sector has given c£365bn net tax to the Treasury since 1970s; in next few years we will have to import two-thirds of our gas. So, we lose tax for the Treasury (replace it how?), haemorrhage jobs & rely on imports from others. How does that make us safer?
