It’s hard to believe we’re fast approaching the 12-month anniversary of the release of Maps on Vinyl. It feels like just yesterday I was putting the final words in place. The response from the carto, design & music communities over the past (almost) year has been incredible 🙏🏻
If you love album cover art like me, please check out Rachel Cabitt’s ‘The Art of Cover Art’ substack newsletter. It’s a wonderfully geeky deep dive into the art & design of album covers and their importance in popular culture.
Thanks the @theAAG for their thoughtful and detailed review of Maps on Vinyl. The full review will appear in the upcoming edition of The AAG Review of Books journal 🙏🏻
Not every year do you publish a book. 2025 has been an absolute blast — road-tripping from Bendigo to Melbourne, San Diego to San Francisco, London, and every corner of the internet. Huge thanks to everyone who fell in love with @mapsonvinyl 🙏🏻
We’re underway at the Queen Victoria Market Record Fair! 🎶 Come say hi, flip through some vinyl, and check out Maps on Vinyl — celebrating the art of music and maps from 1939 to today.
Catch @mapsonvinyl tomorrow in Shed D at the Queen Victoria Market during the @melbournerecordclub event, including ~50 stalls stocking new and used vinyl, turntables, accessories, boom boxes, DJs and more! Kicks off 9am and runs thru to 4pm. See you there!
@mapsonvinyl features Adam Freeland’s 1990 ‘Tectonics’ record which shows the first computer fit of the circum-Atlantic continents. The map is by Bullard, Everett and Smith from 1965 and is important because it proved the continental drift between South America and Africa.
X-Ray Spex 1979 neon punk anthem ‘The Day the World turned Day-Glo’ lives on in T-shirt form at @studiou.uk in London. It was pleasure interviewing Poly Styrene’s daughter about the record cover for @mapsonvinyl. #punkhistory#unforgettable
Thanks to the team at the @themaphouse for hosting the UK launch of @mapsonvinyl last night and thanks to the designers, record labels, vinyl, and map enthusiasts who joined in. We all deserved a drink afterwards, and drink we did ;) MoV available now through @stanfordstravel.
The UK shipment of @mapsonvinyl has arrived!! Available through @StanfordsTravel from this Friday. Limited copies available—grab a copy while stock lasts.
Thanks for an informative and entertaining couple of days British Cartographic Society. In particular, a big thanks to the organising committee who put in a power of work behind the scenes to make events like this happen. Hats off to you all 👏🏻
I joined Sandra Moon on ABC Goulburn Murray to talk about the art of cartography and what it’s like being a map-maker — and if you’re a year 10 student thinking about subjects for next yr, consider the geospatial sciences, a fascinating artistic, scientific and technical pathway!
