What a way to end the year ๐
Thrilled to be chosen out of such an amazing sounding line up. This is the morale boost I needed to see me through the final MS tweaks over Christmas.

If I could backflip, Iโd give it a go. Honestly, Iโm so delighted to, not only, see my name but my novel title too! It all feels a little more real now โจ

@frazzledlitmag The loveliest email! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my submission and for the little boost about making it to the shortlist! ๐ซถ๐
Anyone else have a piece of flash that keeps getting โalmostsโ โshortlistsโ and โnear missesโ? Every time I think Iโll retire it, I get another โoooh it was this close to being chosenโ. This lilโ piece has to find its home one day ๐

โThe difference between published writers and unpublished writers, is the published ones didnโt give up. They had the grit. They knew how to be a pain in their own arse.โ Claire Daverley, Keynote #NCWID25
@JamesSchannep Hello! Best of luck with Caledonia! I just submitted too - silly question but did you get a confirmation after you emailed? Bit worried my entry has got lost in the ether! ๐
PS the new Hilary Mantel prize looks greatโฆ
REVIEW: Laura Benanti: Nobody Cares โ โ โ โ โ "Benanti is a razor-sharp performer, commanding the stage but with unending warmth and sincerity" #EdFringe https://t.co/2igeIOL3Pk
The Cassandra Complex by @HolSmale just knocked me sideways. I had such a good feeling about this book but I had no idea that I'd be moved, feel seen and see the world in every colour swatch imaginable. I now have the biggest book hangover on hump day but it was SO worth it ๐ญ
Getting shortlisted on my first submission to @NorthGravy still feels bloody magnificent - even if my piece didn't make the final 12. Celebrating small wins, praise, and progress is SUCH a massive part of this process. There's joy I'm knowing someone read and enjoyed your words.
๐จWe will sending out our final decisions for issue 9 today๐จ It's worth noting that we receive thousands of submissions for 12 places, the choices are always are difficult and marginal. If it's a no this time, dust yourself off and get back out there. - Jonny, Nick, Ralph.
Bloody delighted to get a longlist YES email on a Friday ๐ญ๐ค
Flash Fiction is just such a joy and I am constantly amazed by the work people produce in such a teeny word count โค๏ธ
@nycmidnight - does the word for the character have to appear in the text? For instance, could a girlfriend feature (e.g not married but romantically involved) but not say the word? For period pieces, the word hasn't necessarily come about yet.
She emerges, bleary eyed from 14 hours of dram related pouring and sipping the night before, to attempt some writing.
It's a hard job but someone has to do it.
