@carlhinchy Getting Saint Calvados beaten at 2/7 in a match in the 1965 Chase, after setting a pace that Dayjur would have struggled to lie-up with.
I say “setting a pace” but “failing to have the first clue as to how to control the horse” would be more honest/accurate.
@RoadCheltenham I’ll always remember that peach of a ride he gave…….erm……I’ll get back to you on that.
An absolute nightmare betting in races he rode in, as he was often on the best horse in a race, but rode like a washing machine being tipped into a well.
@Johnhenry151@RacingPost@jane_mangan Won his Beginners on Yeilding, and a couple of (admittedly not great) 2m bumpers on Good.
He also improves for racing, imv, and whilst he might not be good enough to beat Ballyburn, I reckon the suggestion he is ground dependent - and that blows his chance - is wrong (imho). 👍
@Johnhenry151@RacingPost And FWIW, I agree with @jane_mangan about the “grit”.
DC is an uncomplicated, sound-jumping, grinder in the Bobsworth mould. Just the type of horse I’d want onside in the race.
@Johnhenry151@RacingPost The prevailing logic seems to be that DC wants it soft, but I’m not convinced.
He came into his own last spring, and has handy form on quicker going (won the G1 novice at Punchestown on Good).
He might not win the Broadway, but I don’t think the ground will be an excuse.
@thespieler@HawkWing2002 I dunno.
The only people who will be happy are those backing the winners. Everyone else will decry the CoC for making a complete and unneccessary rear-end of things.
He really should have said “I don’t know what you’re talking about” and hid in his office for ten days.
