The problem is human beings are hardwired for credulity.

Believing stupid impossible things because the chief said so used to have survival value in that it kept you a part of the group so you didn't have to find food or fight off predators all on your own.

So turning a blind eye to bullshit has become a subconscious synonym for safety and security which still exercises massive amounts of control on the majority.

We have tens of thousands of years of prioritizing authority over sense and experience to the extent people genuinely deeply fear dissension from authority-sourced "consensus".

and we just can't get past it - even though our chiefs are now all power -crazed ideologues happily exploiting our gullibility every single day.
