You’ve said US abortion issue is a state issue, not federal. I assume many immigrants do not really get American history, so let me explain what state rights mean -

“State rights” is often used by conservatives whenever they need to oppress a group. Whether it be slavery, civil rights, voting rights etc.

Without a federal ban on slavery, it would have continued in the southern states for another 100 years. The south went to war to keep “state rights” to own slaves.

Without a federal desegregation law, schools and public places would still be closed to black people due to state laws. Heck, the army and national guard had to be deployed to allow black kids in to desegregated schools!!!

State rights is behind the gerrymandering of districts, redlining to ensure black people can live in “white areas”, and the political design of certain states to make voting harder in black communities.

Current abortion bans were couched as state rights, yet states like Texas are preventing the measure from getting on the ballot for vote. Florida attempted to ban healthcare workers campaigning for restoring said right in the state.

History has shown that “state rights” is often code for right to do harm unopposed. Either way, the electoral college is a summation of state votes, so the outcome of electoral college is national mandate, no?

If you are pro-life, all you have to do, even with a national law making abortions legal, is nothing. It doesn’t affect you in anyway, with or without the law. All you have to do is nothing. You can choose to die if you have an ectopic pregnancy - your choice.

But what about a person who decides, “I won’t die due to this miscarriage”? What about their rights, which are taken away by a law? They do matter surely?
