No it isn't better to dismiss your pet and resummon because that costs a GCD and I think empties the pet's energy.

The right thing to do is to turn off Leap autocast on this boss.

If you pet is in Assist mode, DoTs ticking will cause the ghoul to acquire a target if it has none and it will Leap to that target if it is out of melee range, if Leap autocast is enabled.

You notice this if you ever try to like get out of combat with target dummies and your pet keeps going back to attack them whenever you dots tick.

Nope. The ghoul automatically casts Leap when you are in combat, it has a target or you have it in assist mode and something happens that causes it to acquire a target, Leap autocast is turned on, it is out of melee range of its target, and it has sufficient energy.

The thing that causes your ghoul to acquire a target (other than you taking an action like attacking something or using petattack) can be you targeting something or one of your DoTs ticking on something. You don't have to use any abilities.
