@QueRedux This is an awesome way to perpetuate the stereotype that tennis is an elitist sport with strong favoritism at the top- the very thing the tour is in a fight about as we speak.
@talishammas@laurenjpkhan As a follow up- sports romance seems to be big these days, but do you see sports in different genre fiction being as big (thriller, for example)?
@Sunny_Jace@ostaplosion And like I said from the start- I saw no mention of this is the original article that was linked, with the headline about Taylor. If there are tweets and what not, that’s another story. Pretty sure that was in my first or second reply ^
@Sunny_Jace@ostaplosion There’s not much else to say. The point still stands, and it still feels reckless when other players were involved in issues around that same time.
@AdequateAndy@Sunny_Jace@ostaplosion Smh, the point has always been about why, and how, only Taylor was singled out in the post, for something that didn’t explicitly come from Claire’s mouth. You know this though.
@AdequateAndy@Sunny_Jace@ostaplosion Did she though? I haven’t seen the tweet in a while. And from my end- and as shown in supporting tweets- no, that’s not how calling out works. Regardless, the fact that you refuse to see, or continue to ignore the potentially dangerous concerns, all to drive a point, is telling.
@AdequateAndy@Sunny_Jace@ostaplosion What Claire actually did was call out several unfortunate incidents on tour, and spoke about how she didn’t like certain things that were happening. Unless a list of names were attached, then this “class of players” hasn’t been made public. So let’s not just pick one person.
@AdequateAndy@Sunny_Jace@ostaplosion That’s not your point because she *didn’t name anyone*, yet this post only mentioned a single player. You are smart- so you *have* to understand the responsibility of putting out a narrative that Claire Liu has called out Taylor Townsend for racism. It’s reckless for both.
@AdequateAndy@Sunny_Jace@ostaplosion Then her point would have to bring awareness to things she’s experienced. Why do we always have to look for someone to name, blame, and crucify? This is crazy to me.
@AdequateAndy@Sunny_Jace@ostaplosion For one- that didn’t happen. Two, you’d be calling out multiple players. Three, it would be setting up a lynch mob, on behalf of Claire, towards these players if Liu gains some traction in the coming days. If Claire wanted to do so,she could have named Taylor full stop. Or Paula
@AdequateAndy@Sunny_Jace@ostaplosion You clearly feel strongly, but it’s blocking your ability to see this from the other lense. We both know how impactful social media is these days. It’s quite reckless to make a post that essentially says “Claire Liu called out Taylor Townsend for racism against her/ Asians”.
@AdequateAndy@Sunny_Jace@ostaplosion What part is missing here? Around that same time there were several other players that were in the hot seat because of poor comments made regarding food, culture etc, as the tour had started it stop in Asia. The context is that there were others around that time as well…
@AdequateAndy@Sunny_Jace@ostaplosion An actual comparable example would have been if Claire tweeted something like- “A player is getting a lot of backlash for racially insensitive comments she made last week. She deserves it, etc etc”. THAT would be specifically, without naming, referring to one person…
