My thesis describes how I designed, built and tested FOURIER, the first generation science beam combiner for the @MRObservatory.
My thesis is available open access here: https://t.co/dm2GdRa7cp
This is amazing news, thank you to the @RoyalAstroSoc and the Patricia Tomkins Foundation for this award!
And of course to the amazing optical interferometry group in Cambridge, who this wouldn't have been possible without.
The winner of the 2022 Patricia Tomkins Thesis Prize is Dr Daniel Mortimer for the thesis entitled 'Designing a beam combiner for faint limiting magnitudes in optical interferometry'.
The #JWST has detected carbon dioxide in a planetary atmosphere beyond our solar system. International scientists & researchers involved include our very own @warwickuni @WarwickAstro PhD student @evi_ahrer & Prof @peterwheatley. #Physics#Nasa ➡️https://t.co/LAHPPHMtfb
I'm running the #GreatNorthRun for charity next month, my first half marathon! If you can/want to donate any amount that would be fantastic! Link below 🔽

Yet another big thank you to everyone that attended #sharpesteyes2022 🔭💫 Here is our fabulous conference photo with all the in-person delegates as well as LOC (thank goodness for the sunshine!) Keep your eyes peeled for the rest of conference photos coming your way soon...👀
A lot of it was thanks to the motivation from @astrokraus to get this right. Of course, it still wouldn’t have happened without the LOC, the AV technicians, and the participants who were all super supportive in making this work!
I’m so happy to hear that the hybrid format of #SharpestEyes2022 described as smooth! Our goal from the start was to make it as seamless as possible, so we could have this hybrid format without interrupting the flow of the conference.
Although I was only able to participate one day, I was impressed by the very smooth hybrid format of the #SharpestEyes2022 conference. I think this was the first hybrid conference that worked for me (as a remote participant). How did they do it? 1/
A bonus of the hybrid setup was that it made capturing the talks and discussions super easy by simply recording the Zoom meeting. We’ll soon make these available to the community so that the knowledge shared at the conference can be “open access” for years to come!
