@GaryParrishCBS@CBSSports@GaryParrishCBS did I miss where Vandy got worse? I am pretty sure they are returning a potential pre-season All American in Tyler Tanner and added some serious talent around him. So why were they ranked in the top 20 in every category under the sun last year and now they aren't?
@jeffborzello How has Vandy dropped? They have a preseason All American point guard with Tanner with a solid group of transfers and a couple returning players along with one of the top coaches in the country the last couple years.
"Thirty-one years old, out of options, not doing great in Triple-A. I kind of want[ed] to take the next step in life." -Rico Garcia in early 2025
A year ago he almost walked away from baseball.
He was drafted 890th overall in 2016.
Debuted with a 10.50 ERA.
Had Tommy John surgery.
Bounced through seven organizations.
In 2025, he was DFA'd three times in a single summer, shuttled between the Mets and Yankees like lost luggage.
His career ERA was 5.27.
The O's claimed him off waivers in August and saw something nobody else did and they gave him a $900K deal.
He's repaid them with the best start to a season by a reliever in franchise history:
1 hit and 1 earned run over 17 innings.
Baseball doesn't care about your draft slot, your ERA, or how many times you've been told to pack your bags. Sometimes the best stories take a decade to write. Rico's story is a special one.
@vandy_62 I agree except the Nickel replacement. Not saying the 3pt production of Okereke, Tanner and Glass won't be enough but it was nice having a 40% 3pt guy with extreme range.
