Did you know that the Victorian government recently made significant changes to the Child Safety Standards. Our industry is legally obligated to make sure our organisations are compliant with these standards by January 2023.

Artists who worked in the gig economy weren’t eligible for Jobkeeper payments. Darren Hayes says it led to the loss of great creatives and it is “insulting for people who had given up their entire lives to perform for all of us”. Watch #QandA on iview: https://t.co/nggsbCTwte

VICTORIAN DANCE AND PERFORMING ARTS EDUCATION INDUSTRY ON VERGE OF COLLAPSE
Dance Arts Alliance are lobbying @VicGovAu to reinstate financial support, including rent relief and Biz Cost Assistance, to protect the 1000 Performing Arts studios across Vic in financial distress.
‘Nearly every Australian artist starring on the stage and screen received their start at a dance and performing arts school. Both Federal and State Governments refuse to adequately support this incredibly important industry that contributes to our State’s culture and wellbeing’.
Quotes attributable Mike Harrison-Lamond (Chair) ‘Anyone who has a child enrolled needs to contact their local MP today. Two years of building debt, the removal of government support, and a crippling start to 2022, there is a good chance your local studio will not be reopening’.

In the current environment with 30,000-50,000 COVID cases a day, enrolments are half of January 2020 and 2021, business owners are suffering from anxiety, and the Victorian Government is ignoring the crisis of small business across a multitude of industries.
The Victorian Government support has been inadequate to cover commercial business expenses, with Business Cost Assistance program funding withdrawn in October 2021 and Rent Relief ending this weekend (for those small number of businesses who qualified).
The majority of these dance and performing arts businesses, some having operated for decades, are struggling - many having already closed their doors permanently.
Dance and Performing Arts studios have been crippled throughout the pandemic, with the @VicGovAu wrongfully categorising children’s dance and performing arts classes alongside brothels – meaning it was the first industry closed and the last to reopen through all 6 lockdowns.
