This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write, but we have now reached an inflection point in Mathew’s health journey where we’re not sure if he’s going to pull through anymore.
Mathew’s care so far has been filled with a lot of Nerve-wrecking challenges. From Neurosurgery, to fluid within the sac covering his heart, to fluid in the lungs, to kidney dysfunction. He has fought many battles and escaped death narrowly every time.
Right now, we’re faced with a different challenge on a whole new level. The boy has been bleeding torrentially from his bowels in the last few days. The doctors have been battling to keep him alive and several attempts made to stop the bleeding to no avail. He has been receiving blood platelets continuously to keep him alive, but it really does feel like we’re prolonging his suffering as he keeps bleeding out all of it and has gone into Cardiac arrest twice.
We now have one last attempt with a procedure called Arterial embolization which basically involves sealing off certain blood vessels supplying the bleeding bowel. That procedure alone cost approximately 4 million naira.
This is our last chance to save Mathew’s life. It’s a really slim one I must say, but the doctors are working tirelessly on keeping him stable enough to withstand the procedure. The poor boy is too fragile but his spirit is unwavering. Seeing him in that state at the hospital last night was painful. I shed a few tears. He doesn’t deserve any of this. No one does.
We have spent about 20 million naira so far on his treatment and will continue to do everything that’s necessary to save his life but now more than ever, we need a miracle.

Mathew, one of our most promising chess students in Makoko got hurt two weeks ago in church whilst trying to help carry loud speakers in preparation for service. He suffered some damage to his spinal cord causing complete paralysis of his two legs as well as worrisome weakness of his diaphragm which is now affecting his breathing.
He’s currently in critical life threatening condition and will require Neurosurgery immediately to save his life.
It’s a very complex 50/50 situation and there’s a chance we may lose him if we don’t act fast.
I drove him to Marigold hospital where I had my own surgery done recently and had to pay a million Naira in deposit before they could commence treatment. Now we need to raise about 5 million Naira to save his life. He’s a great kid who still has his entire life ahead of him and he needs all of us now more than ever.
I now carry a great burden in my heart for this kid. Please share this post with everyone you know and donate if you can. We’re in a race against time….
