@JLMinNYC @CastleGoofy16 @teIenovias It does not exist. Jennifer Laura Thompson is in the NYPL/TOFT tape. Not Cheno. At that time, shows expected to run for a while weren’t taped until well into their runs due to budget constraints. And none of the TOFT tapes are what made it to streaming
@DanBranns Was there last night. Had a tech hold in middle of Act Two as the center lift broke. I was one of the first people out of the theatre and hit the street at 10:27. A full 3 hours. And then add that they tell you to arrive an hour before curtain for pre show
@katereinking Sorry. You said something along the lines of “it needed to cook longer” when you saw it, so I thought it must have been one of the shows you were referencing. My bad
@katereinking We have to let writers put the pencil down and we have to let shows fail. The “needed another workshop” rhetoric we all use I’ve started to find slightly toxic.
@katereinking Collaboration is struggling because people are shackled to one promising work and one set of collaborators jamming up the few developmental spaces left for years. It stops everyone from getting experience in multiple places and multiple projects.
@ATDazzles Probs titled “Daddy Opera”. Timeline means Stock Market Chandelier Crash of ‘29 forced Erik to economize. Now leading the WPA opera program, will history repeat as he presents Gustav’s first opera? Will Gutav fall for the soprano? Will Erik too? Is there money for budget magic?
@KurtPerry41@kevinddaly More famous doesn’t mean more appropriate. IMO he chose the two most appropriate names. They dropped. He then went to two who would sell the product and were available in a time crunch (allegedly only had a couple weeks to find Hadley’s replacement).
@KurtPerry41@kevinddaly Bernstein reportedly hand picked Jerry Hadley and Julia Migenes for WSS. They both dropped out rather late for separate reasons. Te Kanawa and Carreras were the best he could find available on short notice.
@SonyBroadway Sweeney Todd has not updated yet on Apple Music and your link to it on this post redirects to Into the Woods (which admittedly does sound like an improvement)
@katereinking CBA doesn’t state the dispensation MUST be granted. It’s a negotiation. When you come to the table with 0…how do you negotiate that? I want them to succeed but moving ahead in that space (especially given a Very Similar situation on Candide 74) w/out this solved was not smart
@BCDreyer Spiderman Turn Off The Dark is enough of an odd duck that I’d think it qualifies. Yes, it was technically in previews when they revamped, but the critics had come in.
@akakarenwilson @MrDavidGordon@waltergiant Simple Thing Like That is also from Golden Gate and was reworked into Walking Among My Yesterdays in The Happy Time. Violin Concerto is a violin riff of Sometimes a Day Goes By. Also a piano plays a couple bars of Maybe This Time in the background of one of the scenes
@divarobbie @jillamyw I’d assume something along those lines. Or a massive string section. Also think the Reed books would be split up because the full time Reed players at NYCO wouldn’t have needed to double when they got the gig. Gemignani would probs know specifics
@akakarenwilson @jamiedumont The revised All The Children In A Row is a little baffling. How many times can a person sing the words “phone book”? And Colored Lights perfectly sets the tone for the show. Keep it as the opening.
@lindaholmes Terrific article! I saw Julie first, but the group I was with found the production to be much better than critics gave it credit for. I went back and saw Beanie later. It’s a very different show all around when she’s on stage.
