Story time.
When I was growing up, my sister and I started acting a little out of character, so my mom asked one of the Mapostori women from our neighborhood to take us to her church for prayers.
She took all of our friend group. When we got there, she’d already brought eggs, milk, vinegar and coarse salt.
The prayers started, and one by one people were being “delivered.” One girl was screaming like demons were coming out of her while they scrubbed her back with coarse salt. Another had eggs smashed on her head. Someone else was made to drink what felt like five liters of salty vinegar water.
Then it was my turn.
The Madzibaba looked at me and said, “Mwanangu, une misikanzwa. Chinja maitiro ako.” (“My child, you’re just too naughty. Change your ways.”)
That was it.
They laid hands on me, prayed for me, and sent me on my way. No eggs. No salt scrub. No vinegar water. No nothing.
To this day, I still wonder… was I actually fine, or did they just decide I was beyond saving? 🥲
President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is the author , director, and chief executive producer of CAB3. The lie was that CAB3 came from the people of Zimbabwe 🇿🇼!

One Sunday you’re in Portugal, half-naked on a beach, sipping Hennessy and dancing with strangers.
The next, you’re back in scrubs, taking care of a patient with Crohn’s disease and another receiving palliative care.
The duality of life.🙌🏾

The argument that "if you didn’t fund his work, you cannot question his decisions" is ethically flawed and dangerous in the context of democratic accountability. This you are doing is actually creating a false dilemma: that the public must crowdfund journalists, or forfeit the right to demand truth and independence.
Journalism is a Public Trust, Not a Ransom situation. The "fund me or else" argument treats independent journalism like a hostage situation, that if the public does not directly pay or fund a reporter, then he is justified to sell his objectivity to the highest bidder.
Journalism is a profession built on a voluntary commitment to public service. If a journalist can no longer afford to operate independently, the ethical choice is to change careers or seek legitimate media grants, Accepting high valued assets from the powerful entities he is tasked to monitor is not even an option unless his objectives has changed.
