JAPAN ON HIGH ALERT AS SAKURAJIMA ERUPTION CONTINUES

Repeated eruptions continue at one of Japan’s most active volcanoes, while volcanic gas emissions remain high and subtle ground movement points to continued pressure beneath the region.

Officials say magma remains accumulated deep beneath the Aira Caldera, with additional eruptions expected.

Sakurajima remains at Alert Level 3 as Japan keeps a close watch on what happens next.

👀 Así se observó esta mañana el volcán, desde San Nicolás de los Ranchos, Puebla.

De acuerdo al corte diario del @CenapredMexico y @CNPC_MX, se detectaron:

☁︎ | 1️⃣1️⃣ exhalaciones de baja intensidad

= 🧪 Compuestas principalmente de: vapor de agua y gases volcánicos.

= 📈 Una incremento del 22% con respecto al corte anterior [9 exhalaciones]

A lo largo del periodo y en condiciones de óptima visibilidad, se ha observado mayormente desgasificación pasiva en el cráter.
Su flujo de dispersión ha predominado hacia el sector ↖️ Oeste-Noroeste [#EDOMEX, sur de #CDMX].

El Semáforo de Alerta Volcánica continúa en 🟡Amarillo Fase 2.

INDONESIA HIT BY WAVE OF VOLCANIC ACTIVITY

One country. Multiple volcanoes. Eruption after eruption over the past several days.

Anak Krakatau, Semeru, Mount Ibu and Ili Lewotolok all erupted on September 6 alone.

Three of them, Ibu, Ili Lewotolok and Semeru, erupted again the following day.

Anak Krakatau recently erupted for roughly 25 hours, while Ili Lewotolok recorded more than 1,800 eruption earthquakes in just five days.

The volcanoes have separate systems and aren’t believed to be triggering one another, but this much activity across Indonesia in such a short window definitely stands out.
