@RonanMervyn @boxisbest@anemily14 @popeoldham @lollazymer yeah probably true, and even tho we def have racial biases, i agree it's unfair to default straight to "racism" all the time. but if the "bigger" picture gets better in America, i think people will start to chill about "smaller" things like this.
@RonanMervyn @boxisbest@anemily14 @popeoldham @lollazymer They definitely were for the vast majority of film history, until maybe the last few decades, and that was my initial point of reference. Things are improving now, but the effects of lasting social/racial institutions can take a long time to “clear out.”
@RonanMervyn @anemily14 @popeoldham @lollazymer@boxisbest lol women “dominate” the medical field? Even if that weren’t blatantly false, it still wouldn’t matter. Social barriers are not only actual barriers, but they also create disincentive and skill gaps among women, which can literally perpetuate in cycles for generations.
@RonanMervyn @anemily14 @popeoldham @lollazymer@boxisbest Look at the last 100 years of filmmaking. How many white men made films, and how many women did? If there aren’t any “rules” blocking women then it should be about 50-50 right?
Those of us who remember that AIDS was at one point called Gay-Related Immune Deficiency should be screaming that the president referred to Covid-19 as the Chinese Virus. History repeats in the most ugly ways
